Opportunity cost

The great thing about being on a roll is that once you get the momentum, every day of writing is a great day of writing.

The unfortunate thing is that I haven’t been able to read much lately, or blog anything sensible at all.

But with time being so much of the essence, I’ve really had to choose. And lately, with 14,190 words now under my belt, I’ve chosen working on the book to procrastinating through my blog.

Perhaps it had been in one of the very early chapters of Will Write for Shoes, but I read a home truth about writing: be prepared to give up your life for a while there. No shopping with friends on weekends. No house work. Maybe not even cooking. If you hold down a full time job for at least eight hours a day, be prepared to give up everything else.

And that can include blogging, tweeting, and talking to your mother long distance.

Today’s word count: 1,335.

On a roll

Word count for today: 3,674
Total words to date: 12,855

Which is, like, >10% of the book, if you think about it. It’s lovely to be on a roll. Too bad I’ve got to go back to a day job tomorrow.

Word count blissage

Made a breakthrough today, and screwed the analysis paralysis.

Books are helpful, but if I’m going to spend all my time wondering what on earth could be considered the inciting incident instead of actually writing one, then I’ve clearly missed the plot. Pun fully and utterly intended.

Word count: 3,760. Satisfaction: lots.

Word count today: 2,961

Did first chapter, which had four scenes.

Which means 5,387 words total so far

Which means 94,613 words left, if I were to aim for 100,000.

Which means an average of 595 words a day from now till my deadline.

Which means this might all be achievable after all.

First wordcount: 2,426

I did it! After sufficiently rewarding myself and finally getting my ass in gear, I sat and wrote my prologue and finished it. A beautiful 2,426 words. Not all good, but what the hey! I started!

Dancing a jig now… to the bookfair I will go… yee harrrr…
